Ocean Word Search

Everything in this grid lives in or on the sea: an OCTOPUS, a STINGRAY, a drifting JELLYFISH, the PLANKTON that feeds nearly everything else, plus the TIDE, the REEF and the KELP they all move through. Twenty words in total, running across, down and on the diagonals of a fifteen-by-fifteen sea of letters.

We built this one for ocean units and aquarium trips. The mix is deliberately half creatures and half habitat words, so a teacher can use the sheet as a vocabulary warm-up before a lesson on food chains or coral reefs, and a parent can hand it over on the drive home while the day’s sightings are still fresh. Readers from about age seven can manage the whole list, and SEAHORSE and SEAWEED sharing their first three letters keeps older solvers honest.

A concrete tip: JELLYFISH is the only answer that contains a J, so scan the grid for J’s and test each one — it is usually the fastest first circle on the sheet. Searching for a rare letter beats rereading whole rows every single time, and this puzzle is a good place to learn that habit.
