Fall Word Search

This is the crunchy-leaves puzzle: AUTUMN itself, the FOLIAGE and the RAKE it eventually requires, a SQUIRREL laying in CHESTNUT and ACORN supplies, and the season’s cozier furniture — CIDER, FLANNEL, BONFIRE, HAYRIDE. Twenty words in all, with NOVEMBER and PINECONE among the longer finds.

Fall is when word searches quietly re-enter circulation: the first indoor recesses, the harvest units, the half-days before the holiday break when a classroom needs something calm that still counts as literacy time. This sheet is built for exactly those weeks — and it deliberately shares only PUMPKIN with our Halloween puzzle and only HARVEST with the farm one, so you can hand out all three across October without anyone feeling they have solved the same list twice.

The tip: watch for doubled letters, then mind the diagonal. SQUIRREL hides an RR and APPLES a PP, both easy for the eye to lock onto — while LEAVES, with no doubled letters and only six in total, stays sneaky-hard despite being the most familiar word on the sheet. When a short word refuses to appear, check the uphill diagonal; on a medium grid it is the direction human eyes skip most.

The answer key always prints as page two, whether or not it is showing on screen — keep it stapled behind or recycle it.

Paper & ink

Press Print / save as PDF above (or use your browser’s own print command) and only the sheet goes to the printer — no site header, no buttons. The puzzle prints on page one and the answer key on page two, whether or not the key is showing on screen. Letter and A4 paper both fit without changing any settings, and the sheet is designed for black-and-white printing, so a plain laser printer produces exactly what you see here. To keep a digital copy instead, choose “Save as PDF” as the destination in the print dialog.

This puzzle is free to print and share for personal and classroom use — run off thirty copies for the class without asking. It is not for resale, and a credit to duplixo.com is appreciated when you pass it along. No sign-up required.
