Corner Blocking

Definition

Triangular blocks of wood glued and screwed into the interior corners of a furniture frame, reinforcing the joint between the leg and the rail. Standard construction in investment-grade sofas and chairs. Cannot be seen from outside the frame.

Why it matters for dupe shopping

Corner blocking is invisible but testable: lift a sofa slightly and apply gentle lateral pressure to each corner. A corner-blocked frame has zero flex; an unblocked frame shows slight racking (twisting) under the same force. Absence of corner blocking is the leading cause of frame joint failure in budget sofas within 3–5 years of use.
